Oma's Little Story

The name "Oma," derived from the Igbo word "Komasirichi" (pronounced "ọ-ma"), loosely translates to "as God pleases."

Founded in 2019, Oma's Whole Foods is an indigenous company dedicated to processing and packaging nutritious and safe food products for the health-conscious consumer.

A Better Recipe, Healthier & Safer Production Process

In response to the growing consumer demand for healthy food products, our research identified several key issues with locally-made packaged foods available to Nigerian consumers both domestically and in the diaspora. These issues included inconsistency in taste, ambiguous and often unhealthy production processes, and a lack of visual appeal.

To address these concerns, Mrs. Chinweokwu Shen, our founder, embarked on product development with the primary goal of adding value.

This effort led to the creation of our two best-selling products: Oma's Crisps, a re-imagined version of traditional plantain crisps featuring an improved recipe and a healthier, safer production process; and Oma's Potato and Plantain Flour, designed to meet the needs of health-conscious consumers both within Nigeria and abroad.

Nigeria’s Fastest-Growing
Plantain Crisps

Within the first few months, we quickly transitioned from producing and selling a few bags to friends and family to bootstrapping our operations. This allowed us to establish a factory equipped with machinery for processing, production, and packaging, with an initial capacity to produce 10 cartons (240 packs) daily.

Since then, we have experienced tremendous and sustained growth, consistently increasing our production capacity by at least 100% year over year. Currently, we have the capability to process 8.7 tonnes of plantains daily, translating to approximately 2,179 packs of plantain crisps (2.1 tonnes) each day.

We are proud to say that our first product offering has become Nigeria’s fastest-growing plantain crisps brand during this period.

Our commitment extends beyond production. We work closely with local farmers, invest in training our workers, and aim to achieve zero-waste production within the next five years. We believe that by doing so, we can create practices that support our families, our planet, and all life. Our goal is to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
